Percussion instruments are also used for sound painting.
Some produce a constant sound like the rotating drums or the shrutibox a simple harmonium.
Some instruments imitate animal voices such as sound frogs or owl flutes.
And the curious nose flute can also imitate bird calls, but also play songs.

frogs made from wood with a hollow body, rubbing with a stick they sound like a frog
These frogs are carved out of hard wood and have a hollow body. By rubbing the wooden stick over the jagged ridge on the frog's back one can make the frog croak.
three sizes are available: ca. 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm
The Owls are made from the same wood as a pipe. Blowing in the top of the head makes a sound like an owl. different sizes make different sounds like small or large owls.

The nose flute you blow with your nose, the mouth is the resonance and can change the sound, so it is possible to play melodies
An extraordinary flute, traditional from Indonesia.
You don't blow this flute with the mouth but with the nose.
Even you play the notes not with fingers, but by changing the opening of the mouth like at the jew-harp.
These nose-flutes are made from pine-wood and finished with linseed.
How to play:
You keep the nose-flute in front of your face, that the round hole is under your nose and the half-moon hole in front of your mouth.
The nose blows in to the hole and the mouth is opened on the half-moon hole.
With changing of the opening of the mouth you can play different notes.
Shrutibox
the shruti box is a small harmonium which plays accordes to accompany singing and give a base for improvisation
The Shruti box is a small simple harmonium.
With a bellows played with the hand metal tongues became swinging, a little bit like a mouth harp..
With the keys you can open and close the notes, so it is possible to play accordes..
The Shruti is not for playing meldoies, just to play a bordun.
Often it is used for companying singing.
